Merry Christmas from the Henschke family and team

With the new year fast approaching, we would like to thank you for your support in 2023 and look forward to sharing many more Henschke moments in 2024.

This year, we celebrated some incredibly special milestones beginning with our 2018 Single Vineyard Release, which marked 60 years since fourth-generation winemaker Cyril Henschke crafted the first shimmering edition of Hill of Grace Shiraz from the 1958 vintage.

We were thrilled to receive a perfect score of 100 points for our 2018 Hill of Grace Shiraz from three highly regarded wine writers: Andrew Caillard MW (The Vintage Journal), Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux) and Ken Gargett (Wine Pilot). In addition, our 2018 Mount Edelstone Shiraz received three 99 point reviews and four 98 point reviews, making it the highest scoring vintage ever produced.

Keep an eye out for our 2019 Single Vineyard Release, which is due 1 May 2024. Although yields were minuscule, the wines are of excellent quality with an outstanding ability to age.

In 2023, we were extremely honoured to receive several accolades, including:

  • #10 in The Real Review’s Top Wineries of Australia
  • #26 in the Top 50 World’s Best Vineyards 2023
  • #12 in the inaugural Halliday Wine Companion Top 100 Wineries
  • Hill of Grace Vineyard named in Decanter’s World’s Greatest Vineyards (Top 12)
  • 2023 Julius Riesling included in James Suckling’s Top 100 Wines of Australia 2023
  • Voted best family-owned winery 2024 by LUXlife Magazine

This year, Henschke became a certified member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia – a national program that supports grapegrowers and winemakers to continuously improve their sustainability in the vineyard and winery.

In August, our viticulturist Prue Henschke was announced as the Inaugural Inductee in the James Halliday Hall of Fame. We are incredibly proud of Prue, whose commitment to restoring balance to the natural environment and minimising harmful impacts to the earth has seen her lead the way in regenerative viticulture.

Last, but certainly not least, the Henschke family welcomed a new addition to the seventh generation with Justine Henschke and partner Brad Bryksy announcing the arrival of George Valentine – the seventh grandchild for Prue and Stephen!

As we look ahead to 2024, the countdown to vintage is on! We experienced great flowering conditions and fruit set in spring and, with optimal vintage conditions forecast and an early Easter full moon, we are anticipating a high quality and early harvest.

Finally, we hope you and your loved ones enjoy a safe and happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

Best wishes from the Henschke family and team.
