Prue, whose husband, Stephen, is a fifth generation winemaker, is the viticulturist at Barossa winery, Henschke, and she has been a force in employing biodynamic and organic principles to make the vineyards more sustainable. For 20 years, she has worked to preserve soil moisture and health, and she is an expert on natural alternatives to pesticides. Prue has overseen the replanting of original grasslands, woodlands and forests to 30 per cent of the Henschke landholding. In 2010, the winery won the Advantage SA Regional Sustainability Award; this year, it celebrates 170 years, and over the next 12-18 months, Henschke expects to be officially certified as both organic and biodynamic.
